Veira propels to 1500 Cr revenue milestone in 2024

Veira partners with Samsung to introduce Tizen OS which will additionally enable on-demand streaming channels to its users

Yesterday, Veira, an electronics company in India has announced their partnership with Samsung to introduce its Tizen operating system (OS). It will allow users to access Samsung Plus which will enable premium services including live and on demand streaming channels.

Earlier in an exclusive interaction with ET Edge Insights Sharan Maini, Managing Director, Veira Group shared “Samsung is also opening its own OS to the Indian consumer. And Veira is one of the leading ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) to bring that up to the customer in terms of the OS in their televisions.”

More importantly, they are looking forward to big size televisions. “We’ve been seeing 75 inches as a mainstream or the highest size. We expect 100 inches, 110 inches. All these products will be coming in this year and will be all Made in India. So, it’s a big year for us, a big year for our country. So, we look forward to this as well,” Maini adds.

Veira initially specialized in CRT televisions and DVD players and has expanded its product portfolio to include LED televisions, washing machines, air coolers, and audio products. With 90% of televisions sold in India being smart, Veira has a substantial market presence, manufacturing around 10% of all televisions sold in India.

As one of the largest Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) for LED televisions in India and a leading manufacturer in the washing machine and air cooler segments, Veira has achieved its revenue target of 1000 crores in 2023-24 and anticipates further growth in 2024-25, with the electronics division expected to reach 1500 crores in revenue.

The company serves around 30 brands in the television segment and 20-25 OD brands in the washing machine, audio, and air cooler segments.

This growth is supported by the Make in India initiative, as Indian consumers increasingly value domestically manufactured products. Veira’s commitment to offering advanced products has led to a doubling of sales annually over the past three years.

Last year, they made a significant investment of approximately 200 crores in infrastructure development, effectively doubling production capacity to approximately 10,000 televisions, 2000 coolers, and washing machines per day.

“Building on this success, we’ve already allocated approximately 100 crores this year to further enhance our infrastructure for both televisions and washing machines. This investment will enable us to increase our television production capacity to 15,000 units per day,” Maini added.

Moreover, they have bolstered research and development capabilities to expedite product testing and improve product reliability.

“With our state-of-the-art manufacturing 4.0 concept, we aim to streamline production processes, reducing manpower requirements by half while doubling production speed,” says Maini

Additionally, we’re expanding into fully automatic washing machines and similar products, aligning with our commitment to innovation and meeting evolving consumer demands.

They are looking for partnerships for technological advancement to drive the future growth and expansion of the company.

“Our development hinges on partnerships with industry leaders like Google for Google TV integration and LG for WebOS televisions. By collaborating with multiple OS providers, we ensure a diverse range of software options for our customers. We prioritize early integration with new APKs, software, and devices to continually enhance our product offerings and deliver superior value to our customers,” Maini says.

The synergy between hardware and software is paramount, requiring strategic partnerships. They prioritize collaborations with semiconductor giants and tech titans like Google and Amazon to leverage their strengths in both hardware and software domains.

“We proactively engage with media platforms like Netflix and Hotstar, as well as emerging technologies, ensuring our products remain at the forefront. With six operating systems on offer, we provide customers with diverse software options, catering to varying preferences. These integrations not only enhance product quality but also enrich the customer experience, adds Maini.

Last year, the company unveiled Coolita OS, that targets customers seeking affordable smart TV options, effectively replacing non-smart TVs with competitive pricing.

“We take great pride in being one of the few companies in the country offering six licensed operating systems to our brands and customers. These licensed OSs encompass a range of options including Google, Amazon Fire TV, LG webOS, Samsung Tizen, Coolita OS, and the Cloud TV OS. These OSs are licensed from reputable sources in Korea, Japan, and the USA, each boasting over 5000 applications, akin to those found on mobile phones, directly accessible on our televisions,” Maini says.
