In a significant move to propel India’s rapidly expanding Esports sector, some of the country’s most prominent gaming figures recently engaged in a pivotal discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conversation focused on the evolution and future prospects of India’s gaming industry.

The roundtable included Animesh Agarwal (8Bit_Thug), Naman Mathur (Mortal), and Payal Dhare (PayalGaming) from 8BitCreatives, Ganesh Gangadhar (SKRossi), Anshu Bisht (GamerFleet), Mithilesh Patankar (MythPat), and Tirth Mehta.

Esports in India has transitioned from a casual hobby to a recognized ‘multi-sport’ event, acknowledged by the government. According to the latest FICCI-EY report, titled ‘#Reinvent: India’s media & entertainment sector is innovating for the future,’ participation in Esports tournaments reached 1.8 million in 2023 across various top titles and competitive tiers. The report predicts this number to grow to 2.5 million in 2024. Moreover, game streaming saw a significant uptick in viewership of 20% to 25%, especially in Tier-II cities.

The discussion covered various facets of gaming, including esports, game development, its impact on youth, India’s global presence in the industry, and personal journeys of the gamers, highlighting their challenges and successes.
