N Chandrasekaran bestowed with prestigious French award

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, was felicitated with the highest civilian French Honour, 'Chevalier de la Légion d' honneur'.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran was bestowed the prestigious ‘Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur’ by Catherine Colonna, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign affairs for his contributions to the Indo-Franca Business Association.

N Chandrasekaran was conferred this award honouring his efforts in building and fostering business between France and India. The Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur is an esteemed recognition felicitated by the French Government. This is conferred on anyone with outstanding contributions to society. Established by Napoleon Bonaparte, this honour is divided into five decrees that have increasing distinction, such as the Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer), and Grand Croix (Grand Cross) respectively.

After the French revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte initiated an honour to recognise the contributions of civilians and soldiers.

Various dignitaries took to Twitter and lauded Chandrasekaran for this felicitation. Payal S. Kanwar, the Director General of the Indo- French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, extended her congratulations via tweet:

Minister Colonna emphasises the pivotal role the Tata group plays in the Indo-French partnership, claiming that he is now a friend of France.

N Chandrasekaran’s tenure at TCS

Chandrasekaran was also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the highest civilian order in India. Chandrasekaran joined TCS as an intern, coming from a humble farming family. Chandrasekaran is also credited with launching the app Tata Neu, a super-app created to provide customers with a comprehensive yet highly individualised shopping experience.  Chandrasekaran’s sibling N Ganpathy Subramanium, went on to become the president of TCS Financial Solutions and was recently appointed as the director at TCS.

India was the 30th largest foreign investor in France. The recent Indo-France Business Awards held at the Residence of France in New Delhi on May 15th, 2023, awarded exceptional business relations fostered by the companies arising out of entrepreneurial alliances between India and France.
