KRAFTON signs MoU with Gujarat Government to strengthen gaming and esports industry

The MoU will see KRAFTON work closely with the state government to stimulate and help nurture the state’s Technology and Gaming ecosystems

In a significant development for India’s gaming landscape, KRAFTON, Inc., a leading South Korean video game developer, has forged a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat and TransStadia Technologies Pvt. Ltd. This landmark collaboration aims to catalyze the technology, gaming, and esports ecosystem in Gujarat, reinforcing KRAFTON’s commitment to fostering India’s gaming and technology sector.

Gujarat, renowned for its rapid economic growth and attraction of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), is now positioned to emerge as a pivotal center for the esports and gaming industry. The state’s dedication to technological innovation and digital infrastructure renders it an ideal partner for KRAFTON, as both entities seek to elevate the local and national gaming scenes to unprecedented levels.

Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of KRAFTON India, expressed immense pride in the partnership, hailing it as a significant stride forward for game development and esports in India. Sohn emphasized the synergy between Gujarat’s dynamic growth environment and KRAFTON’s expertise in game development and esports, foreseeing unparalleled opportunities for talent development, infrastructure enhancement, and community engagement. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would spark innovation and inspire a new generation of gamers and developers.

The Government of Gujarat echoed Sohn’s enthusiasm, highlighting the alignment of the partnership with the state’s vision for digital and economic growth. Sh. Harsh Sanghavi, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, Government of Gujarat, underscored the transformative potential of the collaboration, asserting that it would accelerate Gujarat’s journey towards becoming an indigenous and interactive hub for esports. Sanghavi anticipated the positive impact of the partnership on the state’s youth and the broader esports gaming community.

KRAFTON’s commitment to India’s gaming ecosystem is underscored by its substantial investments in Indian startups, totaling USD 160 million since 2021. The company plans to inject an additional USD 150 million over the next 2-3 years, solidifying its dedication to nurturing game development talent in India. In line with this commitment, KRAFTON recently launched the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator program, aimed at providing funding, mentorship, and essential resources to promising developers.

Moreover, KRAFTON India hosted the BMPS 2023 (BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA PRO SERIES) in Ahmedabad, in collaboration with the city of Ahmedabad, showcasing its efforts to bolster the burgeoning gaming ecosystem. With the signing of the MoU, the future of gaming and esports in Gujarat and India is poised for unprecedented growth. The collaboration is expected to unlock new opportunities, foster talent, and establish Gujarat as a prominent destination for the global gaming community.
