In an exclusive interview with ET Edge Insights, Manoj Paul, Managing Director of Equinix India, sheds light on the company’s strategic focus in the Indian market and its commitment to sustainable growth. Equinix, a leading American multinational firm specializing in Internet connection and data centers, aims to leverage the burgeoning opportunities presented by the evolving digital landscape in India.

Paul emphasizes the dynamic nature of digital infrastructure, noting the increasing adoption of digital content and services by consumers, which creates significant opportunities for growth.

Meeting the demand for Interconnection Services:

Regarding the rollout of digital interconnection services for enterprises in India, Paul discusses the growing demand for such services driven by the rapid digitization of businesses and the rising expectations of consumers. Equinix recognizes the need for flexibility and optimization in architecture to meet evolving requirements efficiently. The Equinix Fabric empowers businesses to enhance their connectivity with customers and service providers globally, facilitating the implementation of hybrid multi-cloud strategies and enabling access to new markets.

Strategic approach to AI and Generative AI:

Paul delves into Equinix’s strategy for embracing artificial intelligence (AI) and, more specifically, Generative AI.

He acknowledges the challenges posed by high power requirements associated with AI infrastructure and highlights Equinix’s initiatives to address them. By collaborating with customers and partners, Equinix aims to leverage its digital interconnection services to facilitate seamless connectivity for AI-related data processing and analysis. The company’s private cloud service offers organizations the flexibility to manage their NVIDIA DGX supercomputing infrastructure, enabling the development of custom generative AI models close to their data sources.

Commitment to sustainability:

Paul underscores Equinix’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing its goal of achieving 100% climate neutrality by 2030. With renewable energy sources accounting for 96% of its power consumption, Equinix is actively pursuing science-based targets to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency across its data centers. By investing in innovative technologies and upgrading existing infrastructure, Equinix aims to minimize its environmental footprint and enhance operational sustainability.
