Delivering inclusion, collaboration and ergonomics through design thinking

At Midland Credit Management, an Encore Capital Group company, we wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of an ergonomic and eco-friendly workspace. Such an environment is not just about aesthetics; it forms the cornerstone of our commitment to the overall well-being, safety, and productivity of our people and our environment.

We believe that our workplace, through its structural language, can help foster a culture of care, collaboration, inclusion, and belonging, supporting us in our journey to continue to be a great place to work. In this article, we delve into the core components that anchor our comprehensive workplace design philosophy – these are employee experience, wellness, diversity & inclusion, and technology enablement.

Enhancing employee experience
The foundation of any thriving workplace is a positive employee experience. Beyond company culture and relationships, we recognize the pivotal role that the physical environment and access play in enhancing this experience.

Our office design prioritizes flexibility and creativity, offering a plethora of alternate workstations, multipurpose meeting rooms, and agile workspaces that encourage informal discussions and collaboration. Additionally, strategically placed quiet pods provide a haven for focused, concentrated work by minimizing noise and distractions.

A distinctive feature contributing to our employee experience is the concept of work cafés. These dynamic spaces redefine traditional office pantries by serving as hubs for casual conversations, networking, ideation, gaming, and bonding with our colleagues over a cup of coffee. They seamlessly transition from peaceful retreats to centers of engagement and innovation.

To further optimize our employee experience, we also provide amenities such as destination-oriented lifts, an in-house ATM, a concierge service, individual internet pods, tuck shops, and a nearby daycare center.

Prioritising wellness
Ensuring employee wellness is a priority. To achieve this, we have meticulously crafted a healthy work environment through a range of initiatives.

Our ergonomic seating, clean air supply, glare-free lighting, touchless washrooms, and other provisions prioritize employee health and comfort. Our chairs are selected to promote better posture and reduce back pain, and we’ve also implemented wider workstations with height-adjustable features, offering flexibility to stand or sit while working.

To enhance air quality, advanced air purifiers and ionizers are seamlessly integrated into our HVAC system, with real-time monitoring via air quality index (AQI) dashboards. Special provisions like seating outside women’s restrooms and a dedicated mother’s room further emphasize our commitment to employee well-being.

Lastly, we have installed well-lit, life-size terrariums across all floors, and art made by children we support through our community education program, to create a pleasant and uplifting visual experience for all our employees.

Championing diversity & inclusion
Meaningful progress is only possible in an environment which embraces diversity and inclusion. At Midland Credit Management, we celebrate differences and cultivate an environment where everyone can thrive. Our workplace policies and practices echo this commitment and are reflected in the design itself. A disability-friendly building, inclusive gender-neutral washrooms, accessible parking, a mother-care room, and dedicated spaces for relaxation and meditation are just some of the features ensuring that all employees feel welcomed and cared for.

Leveraging technology for energy efficiency
The dream of an eco-friendly workspace, that seeks to lower our carbon footprint while elevating employee experience, headlines our design philosophy. To this end, we’ve harnessed technology for maximum efficiency. From smart washrooms with touchless sensors and automated doors, to an integrated light management system and an advanced air purification plant, technology complements our eco-friendly approach, making the workspace more productive and intuitive. We’ve also invested in water conservation measures and acoustic designs to minimize noise. Our endeavor is to make the workplace experience as clean and green as possible.

Following this, Midland Credit Management in India has successfully achieved LEED Gold Certification from the Green Building Rating System. This prestigious recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

To sum it up, our holistic workspace design philosophy anchors on our three global Values: we care, we find a better way, and we are inclusive and collaborative. We are not just focused on creating an energy efficient set-up equipped with creature comforts and facilities – our emphasis is on creating a safe space where people from all walks of life can collaborate effortlessly, celebrate each other, and enjoy a world-class office, while doing their bit for a greener future.

“Better life, better solutions,” that’s what we do best.
