Databricks India’s business experienced over 80% annualized growth in the past two fiscal years

Databricks doubles down on investment in India amidst local enterprise AI boom

Databricks, a Data and AI company, has announced growth figures for its India operations, experiencing over 80% annualized growth over the past two fiscal years.

This surge is attributed to the rising demand for data and AI solutions among Indian enterprises. To further support its expanding customer base, Databricks has launched its infrastructure on Google Cloud’s India (Mumbai) region.

This move complements the establishment of its R&D hub in Bangalore last year, reinforcing Databricks’ commitment to the Indian market.

On a global scale, Databricks reported revenue exceeding US$1.6 billion for the fiscal year ending January 31, marking a growth rate of over 50%. This growth is fueled by continuous product innovation and strategic acquisitions, including MosaicML, Arcion, Okera, Einblick, and Rubicon.

These acquisitions, along with Databricks’ recent Series A funding of Mistral AI, position the company as a leading platform for enterprise-level generative AI, ensuring data security and leveraging proprietary data.

Anil Bhasin, Vice President and Country Manager for Databricks India, commented, “The past two years have seen a surge in demand for data and AI solutions across various Indian industries, including FSI, retail, manufacturing, and digital-native companies. This growth underscores the importance of enterprise AI in India and strengthens our resolve to equip local businesses with advanced data and AI capabilities.”

Ed Lenta, SVP and General Manager for Databricks in Asia Pacific and Japan, added, “India is a pivotal market for us. We are encouraged by the adoption of Databricks by leading Indian enterprises and tech-driven startups. To meet this rising demand, we are intensifying our investments in India, as evidenced by our recent infrastructure launch on Google Cloud and the expansion of our Indian teams. Our aim is to enable more Indian businesses to harness the power of AI securely and effectively.”

Prominent Indian companies such as Air India, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., CommerceIQ, Freshworks, InMobi, Meesho, Myntra, Parle, UPL, and others are leveraging Databricks’ Data Intelligence Platform to optimize operations, drive innovation through predictive analytics and AI applications, and enhance decision-making.

The platform, built on a lakehouse architecture, offers a unified foundation for data and governance, powered by a data intelligence engine tailored to each enterprise’s unique data requirements.
