Beyond the desk: Innovative practices for employee happiness and success

Commitment to cultivate a positive work environment in an organisation is very essential by implementing various initiatives. From photography contests and environmental campaigns to talent showcases, the focus is on employee well-being and motivation. The mention of unique incentives and efforts to recognise employees contributes to fostering a culture of appreciation and camaraderie within the workplace.

Please tell us about some of the best workplace practices your organisation has implemented to enable a shift in employees’ overall growth and well-being.

On being asked this question to Rathish R, he said, “We are focused on implementing workplace practices that create a positive and supportive work environment where employees are motivated, engaged, and inspired to perform at their best. There have been several initiatives that we have implemented and which has helped us immensely in keeping the employee morale and motivation at the highest level.

To encourage our amateur photographers, the company organised a photography contest for the employees. Similarly, in connection with the World Environment Day, the employees were given saplings that could be planted at their home, gift to customers or plant at the office premises. The senior management planted neem trees at Gandhi Park & Maidaan, Chembur, Mumbai. The planted trees will be protected and maintained by the company.

We celebrated the World Music Day by organising a singing competition for the employees. As part of the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a campaign was announced for all the employees who we voluntarily donating blood at their nearest Blood Bank or Medical College or a Hospital. As part of Diwali Celebrations, each branch or office was required to design their own Rangoli with the theme of the competition was ‘Traditions of India’.

On Children’s Day, we organised a contest called Little Champs, a program that was conducted to showcase the talents of the kids of the employees. We conducted the Annual Sports Day and Arts Day for our employees by dividing them in to 4 teams that competed against each other in various competitions and the winners were rewarded with exciting prizes.

We celebrate all sports occasions, whether be it ICC Cricket World Cup or FIFA Football World Cup. The employees were asked to predict the winners in games and attractive prizes were given to the winners for each correct prediction.

We honoured the mothers of our employees as part of the Mother’s Day celebrations, by inviting them to the Head Office of the company. On the International Day of Yoga, Likewise, we invited a faculty to our office for conducting sessions to help the employees understand the importance of Yoga and make it a part of their lifestyle.

In additional to the regular incentives offered to the employees, performing employees during every quarter are selected for fully paid group tour packages abroad and inside India. An innovative incentive scheme was also introduced for the employees called µ Coin which is a redeemable point earned by the employee for their performance. For participating in the Employee Engagement initiatives, the employees are credited with ECP points that are redeemable against gifts offered by the organisation.

The management has the practice of honouring the performing employees by inviting them for lunch/dinner with the CEO and the senior management at nearby 5-Star Hotels frequently. We also ensure that employee success stories shared amongst all the staff members. Sharing the success stories of employees improves their confidence and esteem. The Success stories are also shared as newsletters and through the Unimoni Magazine every month.
