A tapestry of empowerment: Advancing women empowerment in workplace

Inclusive Diversity and Equity (IDE) is one of the core values at Allstate India. Being recognized three years in a row as one of the Best Organizations for Women in India by the Economic Times, the organization believes that when fully accepted and acknowledged, our differences enable us to bring fresh perspectives to the table. It is this guiding principle that has led them to set an example in supporting and empowering their women workforce.

We understand that enabling women to thrive means building on the acknowledgement that it takes deliberate efforts to tailor policies and programs. Which is exactly why the company puts IDE in the very center and integrates it with policy-design and decision-making. Considering how women make-up a significant percentage of the workforce, the policies are crafted not only to accommodate, but to truly empower this demographic to succeed in their chosen roles.

Caring for women employees stretches beyond business at our business and extends to areas like health and wellbeing, learning and personal growth, and work-life harmony. One such example is their premier employee health insurance plan, AllFlex, which ensures thoughtfully tailored benefits like free health check-ups and preventive care which can prove to be lifesaving for women. “AllMama, yet another women-centric program at Allstate India provides 18 months (about 1 and a half years) of care to expecting and new mothers. The benefits of the program both helps women employees through their journey into motherhood and enables them to transition back to work in a sustainable fashion. Additionally, the day care policy provides financial support to new parents.” said Ankita Agrawal, Head of Total Rewards, Allstate India. The generous parental leave policy, mental health support sessions, and flexible working options go together with these benefits to make work-life balance for women Allstaters a reality.

‘Allstate Women’s I Network’ (AWIN) is an employee impact group which helps shape women leaders across the organization, provides networking and knowledge sharing opportunities and creates a platform for women to lift each other up and succeed. Savitha S. R., Associate Manager, Process & Strategic Initiatives, and a long term AWIN member vouches for the impact of the group and says, “Being a member of AWIN has definitely enriched my Allstate journey and enhanced my knowledge and network, helping me achieve career goals as well as personal growth”.

The impact group ‘Women in Technology at Allstate’ (WITA) provides a range of resources and programs for women in the IT vertical. It focuses on grooming women IT leaders and encourages innovation among women employees through training programs and other learning opportunities. As Manjula Nanjappa, Director, Delivery & Risk Management, who operationalized the India chapter of WITA, says, “When I visited Allstate Charlotte and spoke about Design Thinking at a WITA event, I knew we needed such an initiative in Allstate India as well. Ever since, I’ve seen unprecedented participation in WITA India and progress across levels, promoting and propelling women leaders in their area of work, spiriting us to influence the community at the grass root level.”

The company also recognizes how supporting and empowering women is not only a matter of inclusion but also a critical factor in business success. “Developing women in leadership roles brings diversity among the top brass and helps take a multi-faceted approach to our business decisions. We are committed to leveraging this by nurturing the leadership instinct in women at every level. It makes me extremely proud to be a woman leader in a diversity-friendly culture like this.” stated Hema Nevetia, Chief Financial Officer, Allstate India.

By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, Allstate India is creating a workplace that is increasingly equitable and supportive for all employees.
