PM Modi and Google CEO Sundar Pichai chart a tech-driven future for India

PM Modi and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have an open dialogue in a virtual meeting, affirming commitment to India.

On October 16, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual meeting with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, and Alphabet Inc.

This pivotal meting revolved around two key objectives:
• Plans to expand the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India.
• Enhancing financial inclusivity through GPay and UPI’s extensive reach

This interaction led to a round of appreciation from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Google’s partnership with HP to manufacture Chromebooks in India.

This alliance was vital to strengthen the digital education ecosystem in India and providing students a chance to enhance their learning process with the access of affordable, safe, and high-quality computing devices.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Google’s “100 Languages Initiative,” urging further action to make AI tools accessible in Indian languages. He encouraged Google to channel its AI capabilities for the advancement of good governance, marking a significant step towards technology-driven inclusivity and efficient governance.

Sundar Pichai took to X, formerly Twitter, to convey his appreciation for the constructive dialogue. 

 

The Prime Minister welcomed Google’s efforts to establish a global fintech operations centre at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar, India.

This conversation also enlightened on Google’s plan to improve financial inclusion in India. This would be carried out by leveraging the strength and reach of GPay and UPI. Pichai took this moment to emphasise Google’s dedicated efforts in contributing to the development of India.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister invited Google to participate in the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, scheduled for December 2023 in New Delhi, India that focuses on India’s leadership in AI-driven advancements.
