The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has launched a global partnership called “Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030)” in 2020 to strengthen local resilience.

It is a question that holds immense importance, especially in today’s world where cities face an increasing array of risks, from natural disasters to the impacts of climate change. Building urban resilience is essential for disaster risk management and disaster risk reduction.
By investing in resilience, cities can protect their citizens and assets, reduce disaster and climate risks, achieve sustainable development, strengthen governance, enhance trust and legitimacy, and strengthen urban systems.

5) Respond to and manage disasters

The handbook is designed to help mayors, governors, councillors, and other local government leaders understand the importance of building disaster resilience and how to go about the task. It responds to three key questions: WHY building disaster resilience is beneficial; WHAT kind of strategies and actions are required; and HOW to go about the task.
