“Data Analytics” and top tech-trends for ultimate business success

“Primary ‘game-changer’ in the data & analytics field is the evolution of cloud. Cloud platforms have enabled quick MVPs possible and have enabled a lot of elasticity and reuse of Data.”

ET-Insights: How can “Data” be a strategic asset for successful organizations?

Vijay: Data is the bloodline of every organization today! The moment one speaks about data, we get driven towards the more lucrative aspects like Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Analytics, Data Discovery dashboards, Augmented Reality, etc. We forget the fundamental building block that gives life to all these programs – the blood, ‘Data’. It’s always ‘Data Before AI’.

Data is a very strategic asset and like every organizational asset, it’s prone to threats, quality issues, duplication, etc. and hence it is inevitable that it demands a lot of upfront “investment” to reap future benefits. As a Chief Data Officer, I think it is mandatory to equate funding to foundational elements of Data like Data Governance, Protection, Privacy, Quality, Curation, Cataloging, etc.

ET-Insights: What are the top technology trends that you think will keep data and analytics strategy ahead of the curve in 2020 and beyond?

Vijay: Primary ‘game-changer’ in the data & analytics field is the evolution of cloud. Cloud platforms have enabled quick MVPs possible and have enabled a lot of elasticity and reuse of Data. But a major threat looming around organizations playing with Data on the Cloud is the security/privacy aspects in doing so. I could foresee a lot of investment from cloud providers to make organizations feel at home (as if we are in our own data centers) or even better secure in their platforms.

ET-Insights: Your thoughts on Data & Analytics technology adoption in India VS developed countries like US, UK, Singapore etc.

Vijay: There are 2 sides to this coin – India as a Data Developers community and India as a Data Users community.

Data Developers community is beyond doubt booming a lot – it’s the hot space in the job market today and I’ve no doubts that trend would continue. Data Users community practically means how much ‘Data is a Culture’ in our country and I think that’s probably where we have some catching-up to do. Like I say Data before AI, it’s Digital before Data. The speed of adoption of mobile Apps and other digital applications, I think our country is already into the Digital mode and I don’t see any reason that we’ll slowdown in the evolution from Digital -> Data -> AI.
