Apple CEO, Tim Cook all geared up to launch India’s first Apple store in Mumbai

With a dedicated solar array and no dependency on fossil fuels for store operations, Apple BKC is planned to be one of the most energy-efficient Apple store locations in the world

“India has such a beautiful culture and incredible energy, and we are excited to build on our long-standing history — supporting our customers, investing in local communities, and working together to build a better future with innovations that serve humanity,” said Tim Cook, Apple CEO, who also emphasised Apple’s dedication to making charitable contributions to local areas and providing the public with cutting-edge goods.

Apple’s sales in India set a new high of about $6 billion for the year ending in March, which coincides with the arrival of Apple CEO Tim Cook in the country to open the company’s first local stores, according to a Bloomberg report

As a part of its growing activities in India, Apple’s newest retail store location, Apple BKC, in Mumbai, will be launched on April 18, 2023. He also revealed that the second location will open in Delhi on April 20, 2023, and that its designs are inspired by the ancient Delhi gateways.

Apple is increasing its footprint in India because it has been a successful market for sales and manufacturing. In addition, Indian consumers exhibit a preference for luxury products. The executives of the American corporation have reported that iPhone sales in India have increased by double digits in recent quarters.

During the company’s February 2023 earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that India is an important market for the tech giant, with “record levels” of Indians migrating to the iPhone. Apple is putting emphasis on the second-largest mobile phone market in the world and is taking steps to lower the price of iPhones through financing options and trade-ins and thus become India’s premium smartphone market.

Apple BKC will be hosting a unique Today at Apple series called “Mumbai Rising,” which will start on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the store’s opening day, and go on throughout the summer. These free events leveraging Apple products and services will bring together tourists, local artists, and creatives to deliver hands-on experiences that highlight the local community and culture.

The sessions in the “Mumbai Rising” series include:

  • Music Lab: Deep Listening in Urban Spaces with Sandunes
  • Photo Lab: Portraits of Resistance with Prarthna Singh
  • Design Lab: Every Poster Tells a Story with Boomranng Studio
  • Art Lab: Drawing Homage to Mumbai with Kohla

With a dedicated solar array and no dependency on fossil fuels for store operations, Apple BKC is planned to be one of the most energy-efficient Apple Store locations in the world. The shop is carbon neutral in operation and will only be operating on renewable energy.
