Suzuki to launch 6 battery EVs in India by 2030

According to Suzuki, battery EVs will comprise 15 percent of its overall product portfolio.

Suzuki Motor Corporation recently announced its endeavour to introduce 6 battery electric vehicles in India in the next 7 years, as part of their long-term vision of achieving carbon neutrality, as per recent reports. The announcement aligns with Suzuki’s growth strategy shared by its Indian branch Maruti Suzuki India, on the BSE website, which stated that biogas, ethanol mixed fuels, and CNG will be provided along with the batteries.

“In India, we will introduce the SUV battery EV announced at the Auto Expo 2023 in FY2024, with six models to be launched by FY2030,” the Suzuki Motor Corporation said regarding the EV battery introduction plan. According to company estimates, battery EVs are expected to constitute 15 percent of its overall product portfolio, while hybrid electric vehicles and internal combustion hybrid vehicles will account for 25 percent and 60 percent of the portfolio respectively.

Maruti Suzuki India is the biggest passenger vehicle manufacturer by sales in the country. Earlier this month, SMC unveiled the concept electric SUV ‘eVX’ – expected to be introduced in the Indian market by 2025, at the Auto Expo 2023.

The company designated ‘biogas’ as the prime focus area of its strategy for India. It said, “While we expect the Indian market to grow toward FY2030, we also expect that an increase in total CO2 emissions is unavoidable, regardless of the reduction in CO2 emissions from products. We will challenge to strike a balance between increasing sales units and reducing total CO2 emission amount.”
