FLY91, a new entrant in India’s aviation sector, took flight on Tuesday, with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia virtually inaugurating the regional carrier by flagging off its maiden flight from Goa’s Manohar International Airport. FLY91 is backed by aviation expert Manoj Chacko and led by seasoned industry figure Harsha Raghavan, bringing a wealth of experience to the airline’s leadership team.
Having obtained its air operator permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on March 6, the airline currently operates two ATR72-600 aircraft and plans to add four more within the next six months.
During his inaugural speech, Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia mentioned the significant transformation in India’s aviation sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, which has led to the emergence of six new regional airlines in the last decade. He also emphasized the comprehensive growth of civil aviation in the country and reiterated the government’s commitment to connect tier 2 and tier 3 cities through the UDAN scheme, aiming to increase domestic air traffic to 30 crore by 2030 from 6 crore in 2014.
FLY91 has secured its initial routes under the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) UDAN, with its inaugural flight from Goa’s Mopa to Agatti in Lakshadweep marking a significant milestone. As per the airline, FLY91 is set to begin commercial operations from March 18, offering scheduled flights between Manohar International Airport in Goa and key cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Agatti, Pune, and Nanded, catering to both business and leisure travellers.
