Google has stated that the new Gmail interface will be the default for all users. To refresh your memory, Google introduced a new interface in 2022, although it was possible to revert to the old one. As of this month, Google says, the “old view” choice will no longer be available.
“Starting this month, this user interface will become the standard experience for Gmail, with no option to revert back to the “original view. With the new UI, users are still able to change their Gmail theme, inbox type, and more through quick settings,” Google announced in a post
According to Google, users who have enabled Chat will also see the combined view of Gmail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet in the left side of the window. Users can personalise this new layout by adding the apps they use most, whether it’s just Gmail or a combination of Gmail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet, with a few simple clicks in the settings menu.
With the new layout, the following options are available to users:
- View Google apps built into the main menu of Gmail
- Use the collapsible panel to access the various app menus
- Notification bubbles will notify users of new Chat and Space messages
- Simply pointing at the icons will give a sneak peek without having to switch apps.
- Show or hide the side panel
Users will no longer have the ability to configure Chat on the right side of Gmail, as it is now available on the left, the post stated. Google has also stated that their Workspace Essentials customers will not have access to the new user interface.
The internet giant also introduced a new ‘package tracking’ tool for Gmail, allowing users to monitor item tracking and delivery information directly in their inbox.
