Driving the charge: Spearheading Electric Vehicle adoption

The global automotive industry is ushering in a paradigm shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to zero emission vehicles on account of myriad factors, most prominently owing to stringent regulatory interventions by Governments across the globe. Given India’s commitment to reducing carbon emission intensity by 33-35% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels), emerging automotive technologies and alternative fuel sources seem to be the way forward.

Ergo, the introduction of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India appears to be a strategic move that resides at the core of sustainable mobility solutions. However, the Indian EV Industry is in its nascent stages with only 2 electric car manufacturers, about 10+ players in 2 Wheelers and 3-4 OEM’s in Electric buses. Most other auto OEM’s are now looking at introducing EV models in India. Thus, the creation of this universe is likely to require a robust ecosystem and a conducive environment to facilitate and optimise interoperability amongst various actors in order to keep the gears of the EV ecosystem moving smoothly.
