Powerful leaders convene to address pressing global issues

India features largely as a part of the World Economic Forum at Davos to be held between 22-26 May. News have come in over the weekend that several of our noted leaders have left for Davos to talk about key challenges faced by India. This team will be led by Minister Piyush Goyal. As the world’s top leaders from across the spectrum descend upon the Swiss mountain valley, this will be the first physical event in more than two years. With the events that have occurred thus far, a looming threat of global recession appears to have formed, but according to reports, World Economic Forum President Borge Brende believes that India would be mostly unaffected.

It just might be a watershed moment in history as over 2500 leaders from politics, academia, business, media, arts and civil society will convene to tackle the most urgent challenges in the global crisis, Ukraine conflict, geo-economic shocks and climate change.

We are on the cusp of major decisions being taken at this historic turning point. At the summit, this year, leaders will deliberate on the humanitarian and security challenges faced by nations and perhaps create everlasting economic, social and sustainable goals that will reinforce countries globally. As the world advances toward new challenges and obstacles, there needs to be a certain level of clarity of vision and purpose towards making a progress.

The World Economic Forum has beefed up its impact activities in the last two years, dealing with issues ranging from COVID-19 and climate change to technology, education, and energy governance.

The Annual Meeting hopes to bring together the philosophy of collective action that has endured for over 50 years and has been needed more than now. Among the wide array of topics at the World Economic Forum this year, we will see topics such as cybersecurity, climate, global health, global cooperation, economic rebalancing, equity and society.

According to a report in Business Standard, the event would attract 50 heads of state and government from around the world, as well as possibly 300 official leaders. In addition, 1250 private sector executives, including roughly 100 global innovators and technology pioneers, will be present, emphasising and representing the crucial sector that has allowed global economies to survive: technology.

It has also been reported that several NGOs and social entrepreneurs and noted academicians will also participate at the Annual Meeting.
