Is Covid-19 the catalyst for cloud adoption?

Covid-19 pushed economies the world over to hunker down and look out for the interest of the greater good through lockdowns. The domino effect of this move was seen in companies accelerating the facilities for seamless remote work in order to keep the gears of the economy turning over. With Indian enterprises were on a steady pace toward cloud adoption for the better part of the decade, Covid-19 has acted as a catalyst for the same, with cloud computing emerging as critical to the cause of scaling up existing infrastructure.

New combinations of talent and technology are delivering decisive advances in customer experience, operational efficiency, and competitive edge. Digital transformation should drive positive outcomes: whether it’s streamlining processes, harnessing data, or shaping entirely new ways of doing business, this is about uniting every part of the enterprise in a common purpose.

A survey of 500+ IT leaders suggested that VPNs, collaboration suites, end-point encryption, and cloud tools will witness an uptake, and industries like media, education, and IT/ITeS are likely to see an increased uptick in usage of digital, cloud-based tools because of online entertainment, virtual classrooms, and increased need for collaboration as a result of increased remote working.

These industry leaders suggested the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a speeding up of the pace of cloud adoption, as enterprises embrace remote working, and 64% agreed that cloud technology will gain importance over Data Security and Disaster Recovery Services.

The pandemic has put the world economy into remote working mode almost overnight, and it now seems that this new normal is here to stay. The adoption of cloud computing solutions has, however, ensured that businesses live to fight another day, and businesses will thus need to focus first on security and business continuity with flexible, scalable architecture becoming imperative to operate effectively in a post-pandemic world.
