iPhone 15 launching soon, this time to be made in India?

India has secured a position in the top 5 among the largest Apple iPhone markets globally

The highly awaited launch of Apple’s latest iPhone 15 is said to be scheduled for the 13th of September in India. One of the standout features that has ignited a wave of excitement within the community is the inclusion of a USB-C port, marking a significant change as compared to its previous models. However, the advancements don’t stop there. Apple has also elevated its camera technology, among other features. As the launch date draws near, users are eagerly awaiting to get a hands-on experience with these features.

What’s even more exciting is that Apple is reportedly on the brink of manufacturing its latest model in India itself. Recent reports from Bloomberg, dated Wednesday, have revealed that Foxconn – a key supplier for Apple, is set to initiate the production of the much-awaited iPhone 15 in the state of Tamil Nadu. This move marks a consistent commitment to the “Make in India” initiative, by encouraging domestic manufacturing.

Apple’s current production of approximately 7% of its iPhones within India signifies a significant step forward. Yet when compared to China’s dominant role in iPhone manufacturing, there’s apparent room for growth. The distinction becomes apparent because of China’s exclusivity in producing certain iPhone models, leading to delays in reaching consumers across India. However, a transformative shift is underway as it is noted that Apple is shifting and expanding its manufacturing base. This shift isn’t confined to iPhones alone, as a recent report from PTI also stated that Apple is likely to start manufacturing AirPods at Hyderabad in India by the end of 2024.

Driven by an unwavering commitment to innovation, India has achieved a significant milestone by securing a position in the top 5 among the largest Apple iPhone markets globally. Adding to this achievement, suppliers like Pegatron and Wistron, which are currently being acquired by the Tata Group, will also be commencing their manufacturing of the iPhone 15 in India soon.
