Google to manufacture Pixel 8 smartphones in India, boosting local presence

Google is set to deepen its roots in India by manufacturing its Pixel 8 series smartphones in the country

Google has officially announced that the internet major will commence production of its Pixel 8 series phones in India. This strategic move aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative and promptly signals the company’s commitment to bringing high-quality, AI-driven devices to the Indian market.

The Pixel 8, featuring cutting-edge technology powered by the Google Tensor G3, will be the first of Google’s devices to be produced locally in India. The tech titan plans to partner with both international and domestic manufacturers in production. This initiative aims to make Pixel smartphones more accessible to the vast Indian consumer base and promote local manufacturing.

In the company press release, Rick Osterloh – Google Senior Vice President for Devices and Services India, states, “In recent years, India has established itself as a truly world-class hub for manufacturing, resulting in a thriving environment for businesses to flourish.”

As part of its commitment to the Indian market, Google has expanded its Pixel service network across the country, collaborating with local partner F1 Info Solutions to establish 28 service centres in 27 cities. The company plans to further expand its service network, ensuring a seamless customer experience.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share this news

Further elaborating on this development, Osterloh states that this is just the beginning of Google’s long-term plan to increase production capacity and cater to the rising demand for Pixel smartphones in India. More details about this exciting development are expected to be revealed in the coming months, as Google aims to share the magic of Pixel smartphones with an even broader audience across India.
