When women are empowered, they can participate fully in the workforce and contribute to economic growth.
Her Royal Highness Sheikha Jawaher Khalifa Al Khalifa, a member of Bahrain’s royal family, provided the opening address at the Global Business Summit 2023 in the Shahjahan Ballroom of the Taj Palace in New Delhi. The Global Business Summit 2023 is a two-day event that is being conducted on the 17th and 18th of February 2023.
During her speech, Sheikha stressed the importance of empowering women and emphasized the associated positive impacts on society. “Women empowerment has a lot of different meanings and perspectives. I personally feel every household is empowered by a woman and that’s where it all started,” she said at the Global Business Summit 2023 on Saturday morning.
“The strength of any society is the strong women in it. In my country, societies realized the need for its upliftment and taking it to the next level. Today, I am going across the globe talking about women empowerment. I believe women are equally strong and can make a difference by being their complete selves. On my first visit to India, my focus was on projects related to impacting and transforming livelihoods, especially women,” Sheikha stated at the Global Business Summit.
Empowering women can uplift society in a number of ways. When women are empowered, they can participate fully in the workforce and contribute to economic growth. This can lead to a more prosperous society as a whole, with higher standards of living for all.
Educated women tend to have fewer children, thereby reducing poverty and overpopulation. In addition, educated women are in a better position to make informed decisions regarding their health and the health of their families, leading to improved healthcare outcomes and lower healthcare costs.
Equality for women paves the way for their increased political representation and participation. This will provide additional benefits to society as many people can shape politics, as opposed to a few, and lead to more inclusive and representative governance. Hence, women empowerment can fuel India ahead in its growth towards development.
“Keeping in view our long-term strategy for India and also to make a positive contribution towards women empowerment, we are pleased to announce our decision in principle to commit up to USD 50 billion in investments across various sectors going forward as we are very positive and bullish regarding India’s growth story. Our investments would be done through various structures controlled by our family/private offices,” Sheikha stated at the Global Business Summit 2023.
Lastly, striving for gender equality results in a decrease in domestic violence, sexual assault, and harassment, while providing women with the financial freedom to walkout of abusive relationships and seek legal recourse.
