Reliance Jio raises the bar: Bharat GPT marks a new era in India’s AI journey

Jio will bring new offerings to market across media, e-commerce, communication, and hardware

Akash Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Jio, spoke at the Tech Fest held at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) recently. In his address, he discussed his meaningful connection with IIT Bombay, highlighting that being a part of the event was a fulfillment of a personal goal. Additionally, he touched upon his father Mukesh Ambani’s response upon learning about the invitation to speak at IIT-B.

Continuing his address, Akash Ambani delved into the significant influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and emphasised Jio’s endeavours to contribute to India’s advancement through innovative initiatives. Ambani pointed out that AI not only stands for Artificial Intelligence but also signifies “All Included.” He disclosed that Jio is partnering with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for the introduction of a program called ‘Bharat GPT.’

An announcement was made by Chairman Akash Ambani during his address at the annual Techfest of IIT in Mumbai that India’s leading telecom service provider, Reliance Jio Infocomm, is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay to introduce ‘Bharat GPT,’ a large-language model specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of India.

Jio has ambitious plans to implement artificial intelligence (AI) not only within its enterprise but also across various sectors within the group. According to Akash Ambani, the next decade will be characterised by the prominence of large-language models and generative AI, “We are working very hard to launch AI not only as a vertical inside our organisation, but horizontally across all our sectors.”

Akash Ambani mentioned that progress is underway on the vision of “Jio 2.0,” although he didn’t provide specific details. He expressed Jio’s enthusiasm for providing 5G private networks and revealed the company’s commitment to offering a 5G stack to enterprises of all sizes.

In a broader context, Akash Ambani declared India as the “biggest innovation centre” for the next decade. He voiced confidence in India’s capability to achieve a USD 6 trillion economy by 2030, attributing this optimism to the transformative power of technology. Ambani sees technology as a “great equaliser,” breaking barriers and empowering individuals in the process.
