New contours of education solutions in the digital age

Product & Technology is the backbone of upGrad, India’s largest online higher education company. It’s an enabler that helps build personalised learner experience at scale making learning accessible, relevant and affordable which gives upGrad the competitive advantage over its competitors, nationally & globally

To break it down, product & technology is solving the problem of the creation of the content, delivering content, getting feedback from the users/learners, and reiterating the process. The entire cycle of creation, delivery, outcome, and feedback is technology-enabled.

As we started in 2015, we addressed the problem of accessibility in phase 1 by delivering quality content and creating engagement, thereby ensuring that learners who’re coming to the platform finish the course, as at that point the course completion rates in edtech (MOOCs) were 3 – 6%. We have now reached a stage where our program completion rates stand around 80-90% (90% for corporate learners), the best in the industry. Once we achieved course completion & learner engagement in the platform, phase 2 was about delivering outcomes to the learners in terms of career transition, growth acceleration & professional confidence.

As per a learner survey done in Q2 FY21, 79% of our learners have attained meaningful career benefits out of all who were looking for professional growth, transitions, promotion, upskilling & other career outcomes, bearing testimony to how we fare in terms of achievement of our goal.

As we enter phase 3, now we’re solving for personalised learning experience & personalised career outcomes at scale. From providing AI-backed job recommendations to crafting unique career paths for each individual basis their skills, potentials & ambitions, to building a sense of community amongst learners thus fostering peer-to-peer learning & removing anonymity from the online environment; we’re building a truly personalised experience that has not been developed by any edtech player nationally or globally.
