“In 2023, Russia has become a strong partner of China,” Velina Tchakarova, Director, European and Security Policy

The relationships between these countries are complex and interlinked, and will continue to be an important area of global geopolitics in the coming years.

Velina Tchakarova, Director of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy, and Founder of FACE for A Conscious Experience, Vienna, Austria, shed light on the current geopolitics of Russia, China, and Ukraine, in her keynote address at the Global Business Summit 2023, titled, “The ‘Dragon Bear’: The Russia-China-Ukraine and What it Means for Geopolitics.”

“As we approach the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war, it is critical to examine the consequences. In recent years, Russia and China are aligning themselves against the USA,” Tchakarova said in her keynote speech at the Global Business Summit 2023.

“In 2023, Russia has become a strong partner of China. From an economic point, it can be said it’s a match made in heaven. Following the motto, not always against each other but at times with each other, Beijing and Moscow have formed a robust relationship,” stated Tchakarova at the Global Business Summit in the Shahjahan Ballroom of the Taj Palace in New Delhi.

Russia remains a major player on the world stage, with a strong military and a significant role in global energy markets, and has strengthened its alliances with countries like China and has sought to expand its influence in the Middle East and Africa.

China is the world’s second-largest economy and a rising superpower, with a rapidly modernizing military and significant global investments. The Asian nation has become increasingly assertive in its foreign policy, including in the South China Sea, where it has territorial disputes with several other countries.

Ukraine is an Eastern European country that has faced a plethora of challenges since the fall of the Soviet Union. It has been engaged in a conflict with Russia since 2014 when the latter annexed Crimea and supported separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine. The conflict which escalated into the ongoing war has resulted in thousands of casualties and has strained relations between Russia and Western countries, who have imposed economic sanctions on Russia.

The relationships between these countries are complex and interlinked, and will continue to be an important area of global geopolitics in the coming years.
