Sporting CP to Manchester United (2003)

The young prodigy joined Manchester United after the then-United Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was impressed by his performance in the match against United, which Sporting won 3-1. Ronaldo was initially poised to join Arsenal, but Ferguson hijacked the transfer right under Arsène Wenger’s nose by closing the deal after the Sporting game for a reported sum of €19 million.

Manchester United to Real Madrid (2009)

After winning 3 Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League, among others, with the Red Devils, Ronaldo fulfilled his dreams of joining the world’s biggest football club, i.e., Real Madrid.  During his time at United, the Portuguese star won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008, thus setting the stage for more. CR7 supposedly joined Los Blancos for the then-highest transfer fee of €94 million.

Real Madrid to Juventus (2018)

After cementing his place as the club’s all-time top-scorer by surpassing legends like Raúl and Alfredo Di Stéfano, and winning every possible trophy with the Los Blancos, Cristiano decided to take on a new challenge in Serie A and Europe by joining Juventus.

Ronaldo reached the pinnacle of his career at Madrid by winning an unbelievable 4th Ballon d’Or during his time in Spain. After bidding farewell to Santiago Bernabéu, Ronaldo joined Juventus for a reported fee of €117 million.

Juventus to Manchester United (2021)

Touted as the most exciting homecoming of the decade, Ronaldo returned to the Theatre of Dreams for a second stint with a reported transfer fee of €17 million. However, despite a flying start, Ronaldo would go on to become a frustrated figure as United entered a period of crisis.

After Erik Ten Hag took over the reins from interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Ronaldo was relegated to the bench. This further compounded the frustrations of Ronaldo and was the final nail in the coffin of his United career. After a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo was axed from the United squad.

Al Nassr (2023)

After his fallout with Ten Hag and the subsequent termination of his contract, Ronaldo was a free agent. Seizing the opportunity, Saudi club Al Nassr swooped in to sign Ronaldo by offering him a record-breaking €200 million per year salary. Ronaldo obliged the offer by rejecting the advances of American club Sporting Kansas City to join Al Nassr.

This concludes our complete list of Cristiano Ronaldo transfers. As a tribute to the legend, we will leave you with a quote by another footballing icon, Zinedine Zidane: “When you play with Ronaldo in your team, you are already 1-0 up.”
