ET GBS 2023: India has shown the world how to turn challenges into opportunities, says PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasises how India has demonstrated to the world what it means to be "anti-fragile," while also citing the power of technology and digitisation in revolutionising the overall workings of the economy

Delivering his keynote address at the Economic Times Global Business Summit 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborated on the idea of “One world, one family, one future.” He reiterated that the world would become a better place if everyone were collectively driven towards growth and development. This underlying theme surfaced throughout his powerful speech.

Furthermore, he stated how togetherness, solidarity and integration are essential to facing challenges like COVID-19 at the Global Business Summit 2023. He also talked about how India will promote oneness amongst the nations while subtly mentioning the G-20 summit.

Another topic which gripped the attention of policymakers, world leaders and top government officials was the “anti-fragile concept.” The whole idea revolved around turning adversities into opportunities. The PM praised how India has sailed through the pandemic and has emerged even stronger as a nation.

The idea of reimagining and reinventing India was another recurrent topic. Modi emphasised how the relaxation of rules and regulations in government policies has played an important role in India’s economic growth. Adopting innovative ways to govern the country has led to exponential development. For example, the aggressive growth of small and medium-sized businesses was only possible due to changes at the grass-roots level.

Also, PM Narendra Modi emphasised how technology and digitisation have played an instrumental role in revolutionising the overall workings of the economy. He talked about how the ‘aam aadmi’ has been able to reap the benefits of this economic and social upliftment in the past nine years. From solving critical economic problems like unemployment and inequality between rich and poor to improving the social and physical infrastructure, the government has come a long way.

For instance, about 3.5 lakh kilometres of rural roads and 80 thousand kilometres of national highways have been built in the last 9 years. And today, India is number 5 in terms of metro route length, and soon India will be number 3.

He emphasized that there was a need to reimagine and reinvent every sphere of governance because, without a strategic approach, it was impossible to bring such radical changes. From ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ to initiatives like DBT (Direct Bank Transfer), the idea of all the welfare schemes has been to make India a better country.

“Empowering the poor” is important to drive the actual growth and development of the country. From better sanitation facilities to taking the rightful measures to eradicate poverty, the PM articulately stated the role of successful implementation and end-to-end execution by the government. Therefore, solving these problems at the grassroot level has been his primary concern since he started governance in 2014.

PM Modi proudly highlighted at the Global Business Summit how the benefits of the internet are being reaped by the rural population equally. The use of technology has accelerated the progress and development of the country.
