5G key features and how Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea plan rollout in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G telecom services in India on October 1, at the sixth edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC). The country’s three largest telecom providers, Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea demonstrated the potential of 5G technology to the Prime Minister.

In the first phase, the 5G technology will be rolled out in selected cities in India. 5G, the fifth generation of mobile networks, promises ten times the download speed of 4G that could reshape industries, and greatly improve day-to-day experiences.

India is now part of an elite group of countries that offer 5G telephone service, including the United States, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, and various European countries.

Here’s a quick look at how the top three telecom players plan to rollout 5G services in the country.

Reliance Jio
By Diwali, Reliance Jio will introduce 5G plans in India. Initially, the service will be provided in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. The company announced that there will be a gradual rollout of Reliance Jio’s 5G services to other cities across the country by the end of 2023, in a phased manner.

Bharti Airtel
Bharti Telecom launched 5G services in eight cities today, becoming the first company in the country to provide 5G service. Airtel has also stated that it will have 5G connections in every part of India by March 2024.

Vodafone Idea
Vodafone Idea, the third largest telecom carrier in the country, plans to implement 5G services. The company has not specified a debut date or coverage area for the ultra-fast internet services.

Key features of 5G Key technology

Faster connections, continuous coverage, less latency, and higher bandwidth are just some of the advantages that 5G technology will bring to users and companies alike. Industries such as automobiles, medicine, supply chain management, and production stand to gain the most.

Built for speed
5G promises data rates up to 100 times faster than 4G for consumers. 5G internet speeds might reach 10 Gbps at their peak, compared to 100 Mbps for 4G, allowing for rapid access to applications and services.

Low latency
5G technology has low latency, which is the amount of time it takes for data to move from one place to another. A shorter latency allows for a faster response, which is important in manufacturing, healthcare, energy, and many other fields.

Secure network
5G is one of the most secure mobile networks ever because security is built into the process of standardisation, which makes it more reliable and available. This will help make sure that the data sent over the 5G network is safe, and it will also strengthen the endpoints of the network.

Low downtime
Due to the combined usage of high, mid, and low frequencies, users will encounter fewer network outages.

Edge computing
Data processing and storage will become more efficient as more services move to the cloud, increasing access to resources via edge computing.

Enhanced gaming on mobiles
Even though 5G is still very new, it is already set to have a huge impact on the games business.  One of the most important applications of 5G is that it enables a seamless cloud gaming experience. The reduced latency of 5G and the portability of smartphones will make mobile a crucial cloud gaming platform.

Concluding thoughts

With the capability of engaging billions of devices to connect and share data in real time, 5G opens tremendous possibilities. We can come up with creative, far-reaching answers to problems in society that will change the way we run our communities, businesses, and governments.
